Where the data comes from
The search covers every Finnish lake over one hectare from the Finnish Environment Institute's (SYKE) Lake Register: name, location, area and — for about 5,500 lakes — surveyed mean and maximum depth. The smallest ponds have no depth data at all: not every water has been surveyed.
The "To the map" link opens the spot on the map with the depth layers already switched on. Depth coverage varies from lake to lake.

Before you head out
The right to fish with a single rod without a permit (public fishing right) applies almost everywhere, but for spinning and other gear anyone aged 18 to 69 needs the state fisheries fee (eraluvat.fi), and many waters require a local permit on top of that.
Check the current bans and restrictions for a specific water at kalastusrajoitus.fi. Restrictions change during the year and vary by region.
